Lessons From My Mama

Let me take you back. Back to March 2013 (ok, so not that far back!).

The Princess had just finished partying it up to celebrate her 5th birthday at the local skating rink.

Then we went to Nanni and Poppy's house to finish the celebration. Sometime over that weekend, my mom (Nanni) lost her wedding ring. Nanni and Poppy have been married now 32 years. And this was not her original engagement and wedding ring set.  If I was a good daughter, I would know when she changed but I do know it was sometime around my own wedding that she "upgraded" to a single solitary diamond, and had the original stones placed in a new wedding band. 

But now thinking back, I can't remember when or why she changed again....

But I do know that she had this new one specially made for her and it was BEAUTIFUL. Perfect like her. Perfectly unique, one of a kind, as only my mother truly is.

Now back to March. She was so devastated. She hadn't had it long. And she was sick with worry. But even so, she always said, "It's not lost. It has to be somewhere. I'm not giving up."

Over the next 6 months, we would think of a silly place that it might have ended up, each time coming up empty handed. Honest to goodness, I thought it was gone forever.

And then I got this email this morning:    

"Grandma (my great grandma, my dad's father's mother, who is 97 years old) fell last night while we were out with friends.  She is ok. I called her this morning to check on her and we were chatting when I stuck my hand down into the chair in the living room, felt something and pulled out my wedding ring!!!

We are celebrating today and opening a bottle of 1988 Dom Perignon champagne that one of my clients gave me!  I am soooooo on cloud nine :)

Thanks for the almost 6 months of praying to St. Anthony.  I just felt all along that I would find it eventually.  I must have looked in that chair (and all the others in the house) at least a dozen times.  My sitting in it must have pushed it out of its hiding place :)

When our friend gave his wife her 25th anniversary ring recently, I was almost ready to "let"..... :) .....Mike buy me a new ring.

Mom sent this to all of her family and friends, as they knew the sad fact that it had been missing.


We are not Catholic, and I do not even know much about St. Anthony. (I googled it right after though!) Heck, we are not even that religious of a family on the whole. But I have learned a very valuable lesson through all this- 

that even when no one else believes it, 

have faith.

Let your heart be your guide. 

    

2 Month Birthday!

To celebrate my 2 month Nerium birthday (!!!) I am having a Jewelry Party with a new friend. So excited to help my friends shop for themselves, and get an early start on some Christmas shopping.

But I also thought, why not take advantage of the gathering, and set out Nerium? So tomorrow I am going to have my first Nerium Party! My Sugar High

I knew it the moment I started it.

I would want to do it all the time.

It would take over my evenings, and consume my weekends.

But I knew I had to have it.

Feeling oh so happy today! 

This week marked my very first commission payment from Nerium. I am so proud of myself~ for sticking with it, for blogging, for offering samples, and for getting my first customers. I am dreaming, dreaming, dreaming now!

As one friend said, "Now it's just time to get your Lexus bonus!" But I'm afraid I'll get my Lexus at the same time as I get my country dirt road! Oh well, some problems are worth having, right?!

I'm busy doing things MY way- and it's working! I plan to continue blogging, talking it up, and getting others to experience Nerium! Come join me!

Life is so funny sometimes. I'm the teacher to 16 wonderful 3rd graders. But sometimes, I feel like I'm the one doing the learning! This group of young people is teaching me every day how to love my job! 

Bob Marley helps too.

The first time that I plugged my laptop into the projector, my students saw this displayed on the large projection screen. Immediately, one of my boys started singing, saying "I know this song!" I asked him how he knew it, and he responded, "My dad loves Bob Marley. We listen to him all the time!" And I knew right then, that THIS was going to be an awesome year! Having a parent take time to teach their son who Marley is, is a definite good sign.

Sometimes we feel so much pressure to meet certain standards, and to have such high expectations. And as I of course agree with all that, in the day to day bustle, there are so many blessings that get overlooked. This year's class has allowed me to step back and just watch- observe them interacting, talking, and working together. They're so kind and passionate towards one another.     In the grand scheme of things, all I'm really trying to teach them is how to be the best person they can be. I want them to learn to read, and read to learn, and be excited about finding solutions to problems and work hard as a team to accomplish a task. But even more than that, I want them to stand up for others, help those who need help, stay true to their promises, and love and respect one another. And in order to teach that, I have to let somethings go, and remember...
not to worry about thing. 

I just pray that every day I can use this as my life's motto, when I'm at work, at home, in the car (good grief, can I use some reminders while driving!!), and even when I'm out shopping at the grocery store. Maybe I can pass along my little secret too, so others can share in this joy. =)

Oh, and PS- The King and I have been talking about getting tattoos. The King's of course is related to deer, but I'm thinking I might need to remind myself with these 3 little birds what my motto is...what do you think??

A Change is Comin'!

I'm always sad to see summer come to a close, but am always grateful for the cooler temps! 

Funny how all of a sudden, things are "back to normal." School is in full swing now, and my kiddos have gotten into their school routine with earlier bed times and earlier mornings. 

All at once my Saturday mornings are filled with soccer games, coffee, and bowling again! Everything seems to start the same week, doesn't it?! 

We had warm temps last week <still reaching close to 100 degrees!> but this morning there was a coolness in the air that I loved! I'm ready to wear boots, sweaters, and scarves. I'm ready to see the leaves lose their green and turn to gold, orange, and red. Fire pits at night. Chili for supper.

This is one of my favorite things about living in Kansas~ I truly enjoy each of the 4 seasons so much. They are so special in their own sweet way! And just when you think it's going to last forever, one season leaves, and the next one comes around. 

So get out there and just enjoy this beautiful day that God has made today! Whether it's warm or chilly, sunny or cloudy, be grateful to be here to see it. And don't worry about a thing today- we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
